Acne Skin Care

Is it necessary to use moisturizer and sunscreen when you use acne free or proactiv?

i would say i have mild acne in my t-zone. I use acne-free (cheaper verison of proactiv). The brand does not carry a sunscreen or moisturizer. Is it necessary to use both moisturizer and a sunscreen or will it counteract the medicated skin care line? Both the moisturizer and sunscreen are oil free. Help!!

  1. When using any form of skin medication it is recommended that you do not have prolonged periods in the sun. As a previous user of proactiv I know that it is listed in one of the booklets not to go out in the sun for prolonged periods of time. Also you shouldn't need a moisturizer because the cream or whatever it is should not be drying out your skin and if it is then it is recommended that you cut back how often you use it and if that doesn't work it is recommended that you stop using the product.
  2. Sunscreen is important if you plan to be out in the sun for awhile. A little bit of breaking out should be better than skin cancer later on in life because you didn't wear any sunscreen. I have dealt with acne for awhile and have oily skin so I only use moisturizer if I need it in the winter.
  3. well i used to work at one of those kiosks in the mall selling proactiv and i would suggest that you go and buy their oil free moisture, it has an spf in it plus is good for your skin, go check it out!
  4. I have used Proactive but not Acne-Free. With Proactive the Benzoil Peroxide will definately dry out your skin. It is okay and in fact a good idea to use both, sunscreen and moisturizer. The trick is to use the acne treatment first and then apply the others.
  5. YES! Just go to the store and buy a moisturizer with sunscreen in it. I use Cetaphil and it works great with little to no greasiness left behind
  6. I would only use the Sunscreen after the Repair cream in the mornings, and at night only use the Moisturizer after the repair lotion.Good luck
