Can I get birth control for acne if I'm not sexually active?
I have acne and nothing works. I'm going to see a dermatologist but I've heard birth control clears up acne but can I get birth control with parents consent just for acne? I'm fifteen. What other side affects are there?

- Your best bet is to see your doctor and get antibiotic therapy for it. Acne is caused by the staph bacteria and antibiotic therapy is the best way to get it under control.
- Yes you can, but you need to ask a doctor for this... of course there are side effects, you can gain lots of weight and become very hormonal, that's your mood will change dramatically, hour to hour.
- yes, you can. I got horrible headaches wehen I used to take birth control. So I reccomend you don't/
- My gynecologist had actuallly prescribed the pill for me but it was to regulate my period and to help with the cramps, however he said it would really help clear my face....so yes it is true...go to this website from planned parenthood and it gives you all the infor on the pill and other birth control methods... http://www.plannedparenthood.org/birth-control-pregnancy/birth-control/the-pill.htm
- If your acne is a result of the hormones, your doctor could provide you with a prescription for birth control that would help control those hormones at your age. The possible side effects vary by type, but the occurrence of side effects are rare these days. If this is the first time to a dermatologist, it's possible he may try an oral acne treatment like amoxycillin, docycycline, or the like. Also, antibiotics such as those actually cause birth control pills to be ineffective for birth control, so if by chance you take both make sure you use another form of protection if you do have sex.
- i'm on birth control for acne and i'm only fourteen so the answer is yes, you can. it takes a few months to work, but it definitely does. the only side effects (none of which i experienced) are like headache, dizzyness, nausea, etc. nothing serious.
- well it SOMETIMES works. it's really just different with everyone. and nothing bad will happen to your body or anything just talk to your doc about it but i really don't think that's the way to go. some people it just makes them get acne and sometimes your skin gets really dry or really oily i just think you should try pro active
- There are a few BCPs out there that help with acne: Yasmin, Ortho Tricyclen, etc. They are available if you're not sexually active but I don't think a dermatologist would start you off with one because they have so many better treatment options. There are side effects that go along with BCPs. You're taking a hormone so periods, mood swings, weight, other things can be effected. Hope this helped.
- yes I am currently taking birth control for my acne, umm sides effect vary from person to person I have very little problems with it.
- Most definitely yes! Birth control is used for acne just as much as birth control. But have you tried other acne products like procactive? Wal-mart carries alot of acne treatments that are about 20 dollars, it is worth a shot. Since you are not looking for birth control. Good luck to you!
- BCP does help with acne, but I think your parents and your doctor are going to have questions for you as to why you "really" want the pill, and it may cause more grief than it's worth. I would recommend that you ask your dermatologist for a stronger prescription for your acne, or to change medications. When I was seeing a dermatologist as a teenager, my doctor put me on tetracycline and Retin-A...worked very well for me. Side effects of BCP include weight gain, mood swings, nausea... I am fortunate in that I don't typically experience side effects with any meds, including the various BCP's I've been on over the years. I really would recommend an alternative to BCP, though.
- Yes you can get birth control for ance even if you're not sexually active. I use to take it from the ages 13-16. I don't recommend it though, I gained weight from it and it didn't work. Try using Clinque Ance Solution. Nothing else but this has helped me.
- Okay, I got my pill because I had an ovarian cyst when I as only 14 and it's the only thing that can prevent them. I had acne from a real young age so I was so thrilled that the pill completely took away my acne. It works wonders. You can check a pill's site for the serious side effects. The most common is nausea, that's why most Doctors advise you to take the pill at bedtime. And if the prescription is too strong (keep getting nauseous) they'll switch you to a lower dosage. I think it's a good idea for acne. I'm actully going to get my prescription tomorrow to start the pill again. I was off it for a yr and my skin is back to horrible! That's why I'mgetting it again. oh yea, everyone says it'll make you gain weight but that's b.s. Ask the gyn and they'll tell you the same - that's false.
- speak with your doctor and she may prescribe somehting for you.
