Acne Skin Care

What's the best skin care system for acne prone skin?

The birth control pill has always helped my skin, but currently I'm breastfeeding. Pro Active is far too drying for me, and even makes my skin look dry and leathery. I have very large pores, and therefore millions of blackheads (yuck!). I tend to break out mostly on my forehead, hairline and jaw. I appreciate any stories of success or any advice! Thanks!

  1. Try to keep your skin clean with a cleansing lotion. Try to avoid make up. In India people apply turmeric to their face to avoid such problem. There is a special type of turmeric , which is available in powder form in any Indian shop. Try to apply for one to two hours and then wash it. It will be little messy since the yellow colour might spoil your clothes. Be careful in that.
  2. If Pro Active is drying out your skin too much then your breakouts probably aren't caused by an excess of oil - dry skin can cause breakouts as well. Try a really simple, gentle cleanser with moisturizers like Noxema for dry skin or Olay moisture-rich cream rinse cleanser.
  3. From what I have read, acne is one of the conditions resulting from a candida albicans overgrowth, which can happen during pregnancy. It causes thrush in the baby, but can cause or aggravate acne. Check out the yeast link at www.hufa.org for some basic info on this routine human condition.
  4. Wendy, I had the same problem. First of all I tried pro-active and it dried my skin out too. The one thing I learned was that I was doing too much to my skin. Scrubbing and witch hazel was too harsh and actually irritated my face by how often I used it...daily. I changed my BareMinerals make-up to Almay foundation because the powdery natural make-up infected my break outs, so it would never heal and clear up. I wash my face daily with Olay face wash and then use clean and clear daily Pore Cleanser. Every other day or twice a week, I use Olay toner and Olay Exfoliating Scrub, and follow up with Olay Moisture Cream. It seems like a lot of products, but you have no idea how little it is. I see very few break outs. Maybe one itty bitty blemish every other day. I hope it works for you!
  5. There are many cheap and effective home remedies for acne. Tomato slices, turmeric, papaya juices and home made face packs will treat existing pimples and prevent further problems. More remedies at http://www.wellnesstalk.org/acne.html
