Pregnancy and acne medication?
I am 4 months pregnant and dealing with horrible acne. Before I was pregnant, I was on differin gel prescribed by a dermatologist. Now I cant take that and I was just wondering if there is any over the counter meds that ARE SAFE to use during pregnancy?

- Pro active works well from what I have read, even safe during pregnancy. I am using aveeno acne solutions bar soap right now. It is helping. Good luck!!
- anything without Retin A in it or Vitamin A since theyre the same thing.....no syclic acid either....basically nothing prescription and over the counter stuff has syclic acid in it so best ask your doc in case! also pro active DOES NOT work at all so dont waste your money i worked for a dermatologist for years and that stuff is a gimmick just like everything else they sell on TV...theyre really arent any meds equivalent to Differin that you can take but ask your derm
- Acne is caused at least in part by hormonal changes, so it is not unusual, for a pregnant woman to have acne, or have it worsen. Some physicians allow prenant patients use products containing benzoyl peroxide. However under no circumstances should you use any product that contains salicyclic acid. There is some evidence that it could cause harm to the fetus. The Best advice I can give you ois to consult your doctor before using any acne product while you are pregnant or nursing.
