Doctor Acne Medication?

Can a primary phhysician prescribe acne medication such as Tretracyline or Retin-a? Also, can they prescibe both topical and antibiotic treatment? I need to treat my acne, and over the counter products have not been working. I have had acne for about 14-16 months, 16 years old. I would rather go through my doctor rather than a dermatologist because doctors are much cheaper. Thanks for any help you can provide!

  1. i dont know what they prescribe but they gave me that whem i was 10-11 and it worked really well a bunch of people i know have done that instead of dermatologist
  2. Yes they can Rx acne medication. Some Primary Care Physicians (PCP's) refer you to a dermatologist depending on how bad the acne is, but generally a PCP can treat acne.
