Acne Skin Care

Normal or Natural? Does it matter?

Okay, so I've been wondering...does it matter whether or not you use normal or natural makeup and facial care products? Does it make a difference in your skin years down the road, if you use all natural products? I know everyone will have different opinions, but I just want to see what people say. I use normal facial care products (face wash, acne treatment, lotions, etc), but I've been trying to decide lately if it's better to use all-natural stuff. I know the normal stuff has chemicals, but are they really harmful? What about shampoo? Does it make a difference or is it just one of those "save the planet" things?

  1. ive never been one to wear a lot of makeup. now that im older but i do tan in the summer months, i only wear makeup in the winter months. ive been told wearing harsh products makes for problem skin as one gets older but i cant say that that is the primary cause. we have so much pollution around and chemicals in our foods and drinks, who knows what does what.
  2. I don't know about long-term effects of natural vs. "normal" make-up and lotions, but I do know that alcohol dries out your hair and skin (makes sense, right?) and yet it seems to be in every type of shampoo and also lotions. The natural shampoo and conditioners that I've seen are sometimes more expensive but I bet that they would be just as nice. Also, natural lotions without alcohol and chemicals seem just as good or better. Who needs chemicals? Burt's Bees makes lots of natural cosmetics that seem nice...I've only used their lotions and soaps but I really, really like them a lot. There is also Kiss My Face brand, (lotion) which I've tried and it was great. Go for it, man. Buy natural if you can afford it, look at natural food stores for products. These things all smell great and work well, from what I've seen. Lately I feel like I should really try to use and consume natural stuff only but it's so hard when everything has chemicals and is processed!
