Acne Skin Care

Acne care regimen - Normal, or is something wrong?

A few weeks ago, I went out and got some skincare items, and was assisted by a beauty analyst. She told me to use the Vichy NormaDerm (acne-prone skin) cleanser, Biotherm toner, and Vichy NormaDerm hydrating perfection cream every morning and night for clearer skin. Before buying these, my skin was relatively clear, always a few pimples with a some break-outs occuring every now and then. But I wanted perfect skin. The woman told me that I might break out at first, thanks to the products drawing all the impurities out. So, I've been using these every day and night for the past few days.... And indeed, I have been breaking out - But my skin's not getting any better. In fact, today I saw that my acne seems to be getting worse. The packaging (Vichy) says something along the lines of "your skin being smoother and clear in 4 weeks". Now, it hasn't been 4 weeks yet, but I'm wondering if the break-outs are normal with the usage of the products, or if if they just don't agree with my skin. =/ In response to divinefreeflow's post - The Vichy cleanser DOES have sodium laureth sulfate! I looked that up, and it says that it can be a skin irritant, but that it also holds together gels and toothpastes and shampoos and stuff... So, kind-of needed? Ugh.

  1. well most acne treatments dont make you break out at first so instead of waiting around to see if it will work in the end, try something new. persa gel by clear and clear works really good.
  2. i dont know but u should check into pro-active solution it really works.
  3. Check the ingredients in the products. If it has Sodium Lauryl (or Laureth) Sulfate, Propylene Glycol, PEG-7 Glyceryl Cocoate (or any other PEG-....) EDTA, MEA, TEA... the list goes on, but those are some main toxic ingredients. Any product that has Propylene Glycol in it will suffocate your skin. It blocks your pores and acts like a plactic wrap over your skin. It's one of the main ingredients in antifreeze. I could go into what all the toxic ingredients are, but it would take a while. For good lists you can go to Dr. Samuel Epstein's Cancer prevention coalition site at www.preventcancer.com. Stay away from any product that has toxic ingredients.
  4. I actually have a guy I work that is using the Clear Advantage system made by Arbonne. I also have my son using it too. Pro Active was harsh on is skin and was iritating. You can contact me by email and I will show you a way of balacing out your skin and it will help your blemishes. It is the Intelligence line for 13-30yr.
  5. Greetings, Interesting...You should probably stop using the product if possible and try a natural approach. Try using an olive oil based soap (Kiss my Face makes a $2 type) and olive oil as a moisturizer (only if your skin is dry). Just to let you know, I am currently looking for a few people to participate in a free acne case study in exchange for a success story within the next few days. If you're interested, please send me a message. I'll give you all the details and you can decide from there if you're still interested. If not, good luck!
  6. I don't have personal experience with your products, but I do have a few comments. First, the initial response to your question is incorrect; many acne treatments DO cause breakouts at first; Accutane for one, and certain cleansing regimes also. Second, up to 50% of people are allergic to at least one cosmetic, skin care or personal care product they are using - the price of a product is no guarantee of efficacy or safety. It's a bit of hit and miss, unfortunately. You just have to keep trying until you find something that works. Third, if the product instructions indicate that you may find your complexion getting worse before it gets better, I'd suggest sticking with it for at least the time limit mentioned. And finally, adult acne has a great many causes, including allergic reactions, endocrine problems, reactions to drugs, malnutrition, and auto-immune dysfunction. Take care of your overall health and your skin will improve. Good luck!
  7. pro-activ
  8. If it makes it worse, stop using it! Try Acne Clear or Proactive-they work really well.
