Adult Acne Medication Knowledge Base

Other than Proactiv, what is a good adult acne medication? I use Proactiv all the time, but it's getting to be a little bit too expensive.....
adult acne. is there a doctor's medication for this problem? can medication you take make acne worst.
Personal experiences with adult acne? Treatments, medications that have worked? I've tried every otc medication out there, retin a, vitamin B, vitamin E, vitamin A, oral antibiotic and more. Nothing works. Has anyone ever tried a medication that has actually worked? I'm trying to make an appointment for a dermatologist soon, but I've been to a dermatologist that didn't help me at all. I want to be informed/equipped with knowledge of what I want/what might work.
Adult Acne? I am 32 and I've been dealing with acne for about 14 years. I'm so glad that I'm a woman so I can wear makeup to cover it. It's mostly on my chin. It's like I can never have a day where I don't have at least one zit on my face. How frustrating. I used to take Tetracycline and that helped. Differin never helped but being on the pill did. Right now I'm trying to get pregnant so I don't want to be on anything. What has helped you? Medications or other things? Thanks!
Has anyone gotten rid of their adult acne&now hav clear skin w/o continuing the use of products/medications? I ask b/c I heard that acne can NEVER be CURED-- only treated and controlled? Is this true? If you CURED your acne and you no longer have to use special cleansers medications like benzoyl peroxide, how did you do it?
Is there an EFFECTIVE over-the-counter or home remedy treatment for adult acne? I have tried Proactiv and AcneFree and Clearasil and Biore and Clean&Clear and Neutrogena. None of them worked after months of use. I am 23 and have had acne since I was 11. My insurance doesn't cover acne medication and it's really expensive, so that's not an option, unfortunately. My acne is severe, sometimes the pimples get so inflamed that they are more like a cyst and really painful. If I have one on my chin or around my mouth I cannot open my mouth all the way because the acne hurts so much. Do you know of an over-the-counter or home remedy for adult acne? Where can I find it and how expensive is it?
What is a truly effective treatment for adult acne? I have had acne since my late teenage years, I am now 27. Very tired of looking at it. I've tried proactiv, and all sorts of over the counter treatments, and I hate taking oral medications for fear of side effects. Is there a non-invasive approach to dealing with acne? Is an antibiotic treatment regimen really helpful or will it just be a waste of my time and only make me more bacteria-resistant?
I need a womens advice! Adult Acne?!? Well I have asked and I'm not getting the answers I need. I am 21 years old and I have never had acne up until last year. Now its not horrobile but its still there. I have tried a number of different acne medications (about 6) and have seen more than one dermatologist. I haven't been eating any differently than I have my enitre life! I have cut greasy foods and caffine out of my daily in take, if I do have the two its probably about twice a month. NOTHING IS WORKING! I have come to the conclusion that it has to do with my hormones. So today I was given YAZ, I have not began taking it yet. Is there any females that have gone through something similar? Will YAZ help? Am I doing something wrong?
Adult onset acne solutions? As a teenager, my face was perfect. Around the age of 20, I started getting acne. Now I am 35 and have been battling it for 15 years. The breakouts are sometimes mild, sometimes severe (I am going through a severe period now). In 2003, I switched to Proactiv and it worked wonders...but as of 6 months ago, it seems to quit working and I can count about 10 very large red bumps on my face now. (Yucky to look at). I'm convinced I have a hormonal issue causing this - yes, it does strike more at a certain time of the month. BUT, my question to you today is for those of you who have this problem...or know of someone with this problem...what have you done to make it better? Please be specific...and if a prescription drug, please let me know that as well (I'm not against asking my doctor for the prescription). P.S. - I'd love to hear back from anyone recently prescribed with the new birth control pill/acne medication Yaz. I think it was just approved by the FDA. I have tried the dermatologist in the past...he/she never helped much. The topical cream dries out skin, makes it tight and HURTS. The antibiotics didn't seem to do anything. Everything I did find a (temporary) solution, it was OTC.
Need help with adult acne trouble? I am 20 years old and still really bad acne. I have blemishes all over my face. The type of acne i usually get are the nodules(cystic type). Does anyone know of a really good over the counter medication besides proactive that will help. I also pick at my face, which makes it worse, but i can't stop. Any suggestions? Oh and i can't go to a dermatologist because i do not have health insurance and cannot afford it.
How to treat adult acne? What's the best medication?
Need natural/home remedies for adult acne? I am 27 and for the first time in my life I am having acne. Due mostly to a big change in my body caused by extreme stress and trauma. It only occurs in the chin/mouth area. I have been fighting this for two years. Have tried counteless OTC medications, switch in birth control (which helped for a while) and my most recent attempt was Pro-Active (as seen on tv). I am a full time college student with no insurance- which means, don't tell me to go to a dermatologist, can't afford. I prefer natural rememdies if you have any advice. Thanks!
Acne.org is the best site for acne help? Since there are so many questions about acne here, I wanted to share a great site that has almost 80,000 members. It's free to join if you want to ask a question, but you can also read all of the posts without joining. Here it is: acne.org/messageboard Here are the categories that you can use to ask a question or read other people's help: Mild to moderate acne - whiteheads, papules and pustules Severe acne - cysts and nodules Blackheads & non-inflamed acne Body acne Adult acne Rosacea & facial redness Over-the-counter acne medications Prescription acne medications Nutrition & holistic health General acne products and oily skin issues Light/laser acne treatments Acne research Emotional and psychological effects of acne Cosmetics & style Scar treatments Red marks left after acne No question here. Just being helpful! :D A question mark is automatically added to whatever you type in the question box, so that's why it's there, LOL. I've been dealing with skin issues since hit puberty, and I'm now 36. I WISH it had gone away after 6 years. But this site gave me great info on lessening it greatly! :)
How can I get rid of my acne? I'm a 26 year old female. I didn't really have acne as a teenager, but now I look like a teen going through puberty...I've been told that a lot of the medications you find in drugstores are not good for adults with acne--something about the oils. Right now I'm using Salicilic Acid soap (it's pure salicilic acid) but it's not working. I don't have a lot of money to spend on products like Proactiv. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can use?
persistent adult acne? I'm 22 and still dealing with acne. It's only on the face. It is not cystic; in fact, much of my acne is either blackheads or what I'm guessing is rosacea (red spots without a raised pimple). I have tried many different products and regimes. I did see a dermatologist about 5 years ago; I was prescribed Retinal, which did not help, and the doctor got mad when I asked to be changed to a different medication and refused to see me. I have since tried OTC products & birth control. I've tried ProActive, which didn't help at all. I've tried L'Oreal and Oxy. I've had the most success with 2% salicylic acid (Clean n Clear astringent) and a 10% Benzoyl Peroxide cream (also Clean n Clear). While the acne has greatly improved, it's still here and making me feel self-conscious. Is there anything else, either regime-wise or product-wise, that I can try before making an appointment with a dermatologist? I forgot to mention: I wash my face with cool water twice a day, pat it dry, then apply either a thin layer of the salicylic acid or a thin layer of the benzoyl peroxide over my face.
Does Murad work for adult acne? I know this has been asked before and I read all the results. I'm 27 though and have had acne since I was about 10. I've tried proactive, been to a dermatologist, was on oral medications (Now allergic to tetracycline because of it), clearasil, noxema, Avon, dove, oil of olay, I mean you name it...I've probably tried it. So I'm looking very skeptical at Murad. Neutrogena's Rapid Clear stuff has HELPED but hasn't cleared me up totally. I refuse to use acutane. I'm married with 2 children and want another, though I want to lose 25+ lbs first. Plus I've had Post Partum Depression issues and acutane is seriously dangerous for depression. Used to use cetaphil, but it didn't do anything for my acne. They even sprayed my face with Carbon Dioxide (it was freezing cold).
I want real answers about Adult Acne.? I am sick and tired of it..tried medication and ointments but they just dry the skin- I already have dry skin.. it peels and flakes.. and yet I have acne..I know they say dont pop your pimples and all because it makes it worse- but theoretically wouldnt removing the stuff make it better? How can I get up and get ready to go to work and leave a pimple there?? ya its gross but heck I am at a loss now.. I am late for work sometimes because I look at myself and think - how can I been seen like this? what can I do? diet? what? Its worse at my period so I am sure its partly hormones..and whats it about anyhow? why is there so much differnt types of pimples? sometimes clear liquid, sometimes white liquid.. sometimes solid white? any help would be good - this is exhausting...
Topical Acne Medications and Pregnancy? I'm 13 weeks pregnant and have been using Clearasil Adult Tinted Treatment Cream for spot treatment for the last year or two, including my pregnancy to this point. I just read that acne medications are dangerous and shouldn't be used, but this is the first time I've heard this! Still scares me though. The active ingredient for mine is sulfur resorcinol (1% resorcinol and 8% sulfur). I tried to search but found nothing on this medication...only benzoyl peroxide and astringents. Could this have been really bad for the baby? I plan on asking my Dr soon, but my next appt. is a week from now. Thanks.
Yet another pregnancy acne question.....? Ok, I am really starting to feel very self-conscious about the acne on my face, chest and back. I have been on Erythromycin gel and Finacea cream for several weeks and nothing has improved. Of course, I was told no benzoyl or salycylic products. Has ANYBODY tried anything that has worked????? I am going into my 16th week, so please don't tell me things will improve after my first trimester- they are definitely not. Oh, I am 31 and have dealt with some form of adult acne for most of my life. It finally took 6 months of Accutane to clear me up. Could this mean that there is no real pregnancy- safe medication that will help me? I appreciate any real advice.
Which medication should i use?? Ok i have a few bright red pimples on my face..1 is a new untouched one and the other 2 i have popped..i really want them to be gone by tomarrow what should i put on them? i have...toothpaste, 10%max strength benzoly cream, salicylic acid gel stuff, and some adult acne tinted treatment that dries out super fast....so should i go with the cream/gel acne stuff or one of the ones that really dry them out-toothpaste, adult tinted acne cream
Acne scarring? any adults who had acne as a teenager? i'm a teenager and have had acne for about....six years, possibly longer. i've tried various medications for it, and have used prescribed gels as well. i have a fair amount of scarring, though i know it's not as bad as it could be. what i want to know is, are there any adults out there who've had acne and had scarring? if so, does the scarring fade or become less noticeable? is it even possible if the scarring is that weird indented scarring that's typical with acne? would it be better to see a dermatologist to get stuff to prevent scarring (my doctor said i could get this if it was scarring), even though the scarring is not that bad? thanks in advance
Does anyone know? Of an an acne medication that works well for adults. Never had acne as a teen, but have been noticing some lately. Would like to see if I can keep it from happening, but don't think the stuff targeted for teens would work. Any suggestions?
DO YOU SUFFER FROM ACNE / OILY SKIN ? This may help !!? All her adult life my wife has suffered from acne. She had tried every known remedy out there, and even been prescribed medication by the doctor, but nothing ever works. That was until we came across something on ebay, which we only describe as a miracle cure. It is a volcanic ash which you make into a face pack. Anyway, we wanted to let other acne sufferers know about it so here is the link, and it doesn't matter if you don't have an ebay account either, the seller will allow you to send payment by post: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=013&item=230024410660&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMESE%3AIT&rd=1
Hi.....Some advice from your own experience would be helpful......? I am in my mid-20's and suffer from some mild to moderate acne. I believe that the acne is a reflection of hormones (too much androgens flowing around). I was on ortho-tri-cyclin for about 2 years and the acne did improve. I went off of it for about 5 months and now the acne has returned. I called my dr to get a refill and the nurse did not like the idea of prescribing me b.c. pills just for acne. Ortho-tri-cyclin is FDA approved for acne, so I'm not understanding why this wouldn't be prescribed for this? I have tried all the antibiotics (minocylin, tricyclin, etc) for acne, though I do not like the idea of taking antibiotics everyday for years (which is what I had been doing, and found it to be completely ineffective with the acne). I believe my adult acne is more hormonal. Can I get peoples thoughts/experiences on this? Has this medication really helped with your acne and you would suggest this to others as a treatment? Thank you!
Why am I still not happy? I feel ugly on the outside? I think I'm depressed. I'm 22, in a relationship with the same guy for almost 6 years. I was a popular kid thoughout my whole life. Great at sports and whatever I tried. Bought a house in a great area, have a paid off car thats only a few years old. I have no debt besides the mortage. I have a great job and plan on starting a business within the next two years. I know deep down that I am not ugly or unattractive. I'm not fat or short. But I FEEL ugly on the outside! I had a perfect complextion up until three years ago. I started getting adult acne. And all my problems seem to come from me thinking about how my face has changed. Will going to the docter and having topical and oral medication getting rid of these make me happy?Or will I just find something else to hate about myself? Theres nothing I can think of that I've ever had that made me this unhappy! I feel depressed? It that possible? To be depressed over acne and redness on my face I've been avoiding seeing a docter because I'm worried they'll say I have permanent acne scars from old pimples. I've have some brown discoloration since these bumps started appearing! Some have gone away and some are still on my face from years ago. Ofcourse I've got a very fair face and the redness and bumps are just horrible looking! How dangerous are inhaled steroids in asthma medications? I was diagnosed with adult-onset asthma a while ago and given steroid-based medication to use as a preventer. Unfortunately, I have had reactions to all types (Symbicort, Pulmicort, Flixotide and many others). I come out in bruises all over and, most disturbingly, I get acne, which I've never had before. I've recently starting taking Singulair, which I love, but it doesn't fully control my asthma. My doctor recommended I start taking Symbicort again. Is there an alternative? And just how dangerous are these cortesoid steroids once in your system? I've heard they also lead to bone thinning.
Am I having an allergic reaction to the kitchen cleaner 409? Have you? Please let me know!? Thursday April 10, 2008 I had this warm red thing on the side of my cheek and neck. By Monday, this "acne-like" rash traversed to my forehead and left side of my face and neck. I thought it was a bad rash and I went to three different doctors, who 2/3 said it was acne. I've had acne before, but it was NEVER this severe. At most, as an adult, I would get two or three pimples at a time. I realized that the only thing that has changed is that we have been using 409 at work. I know that everyone around me was disinfecting their desk with 409 right before my skin irritation started. Then on Saturday, I rewiped my entire desk with 409 kitchen cleaner, and then my chest and my arms and legs (and excuse me) my behind started developping more of a reaction. I went to Urgent Care yesterday and they stopped my "minocycline" medication and recommended benadryl and another prescription steroid. Any one else suffering from 409 allergies? we used the 409 antibacterial kitchen all purpose cleaner.
What is up with adults thinking all kids have perfect skin!? Whenever I see a question from like a 13 year old on here that wants to use coverup or makeup or whatever, there is ALWAYS at least one person who is like "Hunny you have perfect skin, you're a kid! Don't mess it up!" Can i just say.... WHAT THE HECK? My acne started when I was about 10. It was horrible, on top of that I had dry skin and a condition called keratosis pilaris (google it). It's better now because I started using medication when I turned 11 (Im now 13), but I still have the dry skin and kp....... Point is, not all kids have perfect skin and what is the basis for thinking this??
